Closely related to jackfruit and breadfruit, its flesh is often confused with jackfruit. It is smaller in comparison to jackfruit (about 2kg on average), though with larger individual "eyes" on its skin.
HABITAT
Indigenous to Thailand, and wild in Sumatera, peninsular Malaysia, and Borneo. It is commonly planted in backyards as an easy seasonal fruit source.

TASTE/AROMA
Cempedak is both sweeter and more fibrous in comparison to the jackfruit.
COMMON USE
Eaten as is or battered and fried as a sweet snack. Its seeds are often boiled and roasted, tasting much like chestnuts.
USE IN DEWAKAN
Used in the cempedak sorbet of "A stack of sorbets", where it shares the plate with mulberry sorbet and bambangan sorbet.
