Visually similar to a cross between tomatoes and persimmons, the cepu is shaped like a flattened globe, bright green when young and orange-red when ripe.
HABITAT
Native to Malaysia and Thailand, preferring well-draining clay loam soil of hillsides and riverbanks.

TASTE/AROMA
Like a soft-skinned mangosteen, it has the clean sweetness of mangosteen with the acidic note of plum.
COMMON USE
Eaten fresh, or mixed into sambals and coconut milk-based braises.
USE IN DEWAKAN
Cerapu is served fresh.
