The skin of the fruit is rough in texture, in various shades of light brown. The flesh of the fruit is juicy, yellow to reddish-brown, though must be fully ripe before consumption.
HABITAT
Native in Mexico, Central America, and the West Indies, and eventually spread to all tropical countries. It is drought-resistant, growing best in tropical lowlands.

The flesh tastes of a deep sweetness, like brown sugar or malt.
COMMON USE
The fruits are eaten as is, or made into jams and ice cream.
USE IN DEWAKAN
Used in a previous menu, where shaved ciku ice cream was served with fermented corn puree and chicken stock crisp.
